Be Available, Ability Will Come
There are many times in my life when I have thought, “I can’t do that. I’m not able.” “I don’t have what it takes.”
I’m sure I’m not the only one.
There are many things where that is absolutely true. If someone suggests that I perform brain surgery, I can confidently say that is beyond my ability.
But sometimes, the problem isn’t that we aren’t able.
Sometimes, the problem is that we don’t trust the One who is.
Holding On
We spend a lot of time learning how to hold on.
We hold on to our plans.
Our abilities.
Our independence.
Sometimes we even hold on to the things God is asking us to release.

We tell ourselves that if we can just hold on tightly enough, we will be okay.
But there comes a point when holding on becomes exhausting.
And eventually, we have to ask an important question:
What if I’m not the one holding me?
Letting Go
There is a difference between being able to do something and being willing to trust someone else to do it.
That can be difficult for those of us who have spent our lives learning to be self-reliant.
We want to know that we can handle what comes next.
We want to know that we are strong enough.
Prepared enough.
Capable enough.
But God doesn’t always ask us to be able.
Sometimes He asks us to be available.
Sometimes He asks us to let go.
Not because He wants us to fall, but because He wants us to discover that we were never holding everything together in the first place.
Who Is Holding You?
This episode of the podcast explores what happens when we stop measuring our safety by how tightly we can hold on.
There are times when we need to act.
There are times when we need to prepare.
There are times when God asks us to step forward.
But there are also times when faith looks like releasing our grip and trusting that God is still there.
That can be frightening.
It can feel like weakness.
It can feel like failure.
But perhaps the greater question isn’t whether we can hold on.
Perhaps it is whether we trust the One who is holding us.
Continue the Journey
We don’t always know what God is going to ask of us.
We don’t always feel ready.
We don’t always feel able.
But we can be available.
And sometimes being available means opening our hands instead of tightening our grip.
The question is:
What are you holding so tightly that you haven’t given God room to hold you?
When you’re ready, come walk for a while.
