The Story of Eremos

Eremos did not begin as an idea for a ministry. It began during a difficult season of life when God repeatedly met me in the wilderness. What started as time on the trail gradually became something more. Removed from many of the distractions and demands of everyday life, I found space to pray, reflect, and pay attention in ways I hadn’t before.

The wilderness itself was not the source of those revelations. God was.

But the wilderness became a place where I could finally pay attention.

Looking back, the wilderness did not give me all the answers I was searching for.

What it offered was space.

Space to notice what had been buried beneath distraction and busyness.

Space to confront questions I would rather avoid.

Space to recognize where God was already at work.

And in that space, God began a work of transformation that continues today.

Over time, a simple conviction began to grow.

If God could use the wilderness in my life this way, perhaps others needed opportunities to step into that kind of space as well.

Not to escape life.

Not to find themselves.

But to slow down, pay attention, and encounter God.

That conviction eventually became Eremos.

The word “Eremos” comes from the Greek word often translated as wilderness, desert, or solitary place. Throughout Scripture, the wilderness is frequently a place of encounter, dependence, preparation, testing, and renewal. Again and again, God meets people there.

That understanding shapes everything Eremos seeks to do. Through guided hiking experiences, backpacking journeys, resources, and conversations, Eremos exists to help people enter the wilderness with intention and emerge transformed.

Not because the wilderness changes people on its own. But because God is still at work in places of silence, simplicity, and surrender. Every person arrives with a different story. Each journey looks a little different. But the invitation remains the same:

Step away. Slow down. Listen.

Eremos continues to grow, not as a finished idea, but as a way of creating space for people to pay attention to God again. This is not ultimately a story about one person’s journey. It is a story about God’s faithfulness. And the invitation remains open to anyone willing to step onto the trail and see where He may lead.

What Eremos is not

Eremos is not about conquering mountains, checking miles off a list, or escaping everyday life. It is about slowing down, paying attention, and creating space to encounter God in the wilderness and carrying that awareness into everyday life..

Every journey begins somewhere.
