Before God Transforms

Life has a way of revealing the hidden things in us. Sometimes we don’t know they are there. Sometimes we choose to believe they aren’t. Eventually, we all discover something about ourselves we didn’t expect to find. Anger. Bitterness. Fear. Grief. Whatever it is, we are rarely prepared for what is revealed.

God has often used the wilderness as a place to reveal what is already there. Sometimes it is the preparation we need. Sometimes it is anger hiding just beneath the surface. Sometimes it is the fear we don’t want to admit we have. God can use any circumstance to reveal those things. But there is something about Stepping away. Slowing down. and Listening that makes it far easier to become attentive to the God that was always there and allow Him to reveal what was already within us.

Reflection

We ask God to change our circumstances. We ask Him to remove difficult situations. But what if He first wants to reveal our hearts. Revelation can feel uncomfortable. It can makes us feel exposed. But it is also God’s grace. God doesn’t reveal the things in our lives to shame us or cause us harm. He reveals them to redeem them. He loves us too much to allow the hidden things to remain hidden.
