Not necessarily.
Half-Day Hikes are designed to be accessible for most people and require no previous trail experience.
Full-Day Hikes involve more time on the trail and a moderate level of fitness but not necessarily trail experience.
Multi-Day Backpacking experiences require previous hiking experience and the ability to carry your own gear over uneven terrain.
Each experience page provides additional details to help you choose the right fit.
Each experience is different.
Trail length, elevation, and terrain vary, but every hike is planned with the group’s safety and overall experience in mind.
The goal is not to move as quickly as possible.
We walk at a pace that allows people to enjoy the trail, connect with one another, and remain attentive to the experience.
That’s completely normal.
Everyone hikes at a different pace.
We’ll take breaks as needed for water, snacks, and rest, creating space to enjoy the journey rather than rush through it.
A detailed packing list is available on the Gear for the Trail page.
Most day hikes require only comfortable clothing, sturdy footwear, water, and a few personal essentials.
Once you sign-up for a hike a list of gear needed for that hike or backpacking experience will be emailed in your welcome packet.
Safety always comes first.
Light rain may not prevent a hike from taking place, but severe weather or unsafe trail conditions may require postponement or cancellation.
If plans need to change, you’ll be contacted as early as possible.
Many Half-Day Hikes are appropriate for families and older children.
Full-Day and Backpacking experiences are generally better suited for older participants due to the time, distance, and physical demands involved.
Specific recommendations will be provided for each scheduled experience.
No.
Eremos is not built around a curriculum or classroom discussion.
Instead, each experience creates space for reflection, conversation, Scripture, prayer, and quiet attentiveness to God within the natural rhythm of the trail.
Every hike is a little different because every group is different.
Every hikes will have a theme on which discussions can be built.
Some hikes will have materials provided for note taking and self-reflection.
Many participants do.
Whether you arrive by yourself or with others, you’ll be welcomed into a small group where conversation, quiet, and shared experience naturally unfold throughout the day.
Each experience page includes information about upcoming hikes and how to begin.
If you have questions before registering, feel free to reach out.
We’re happy to help you determine which experience is the best fit.
Each experience follows a simple, unhurried rhythm.
We begin by gathering at the trailhead, introducing ourselves, and looking over the day’s journey together. You’ll receive a brief overview of the trail, any important safety information, and an introduction to the day’s theme before we begin walking.
As we hike, we’ll pause as needed for water, rest, and to enjoy the trail. The pace is intentional, not rushed, allowing everyone to walk comfortably and be present along the way.
At our destination, we’ll set our packs down, share a snack or meal depending on the experience, and spend time in guided conversation, reflection, Scripture, and prayer. These moments are never hurried. We allow the conversation to unfold naturally before beginning the journey back.
On the return hike, there is space for continued conversation, quiet reflection, or simply enjoying the trail. Before we part ways, we’ll gather one final time to reflect on the day, pray together, and say our goodbyes.
No two Eremos experiences are exactly alike, but each one is designed to create space to slow down, pay attention, and encounter God together in the wilderness.
Every journey begins with a conversation.
If there’s something we haven’t answered here, we’d love to hear from you.

Experience the Wilderness
Not sure where to start?
You don’t need to decide everything before beginning.
Each experience offers a different rhythm of time, distance, and attention… but all of them begin in the same place: slowing down and becoming present.
If you’re unsure, start with what feels most accessible.
- Half-Day Hikes are the simplest entry point.
- Full-Day Hikes offer more space for reflection.
- Backpacking journeys are for those ready to step into longer simplicity on the trail.
Or begin with the Solitude Guide if you want to start by practicing attention where you are.
Still not sure? Let Eremos help.
