Dennis Cove
Dennis Cove is a mountain access area in the Cherokee National Forest near Hampton, Tennessee, where several trails lead into the surrounding mountains and along Laurel Fork Creek.
The area provides access to portions of the Appalachian Trail as well as several local routes leading toward waterfalls, streams, and the Laurel Fork watershed. For Eremos, Dennis Cove serves as a meeting point for several different wilderness experiences, each with its own character and level of difficulty.

From Hampton, follow Dennis Cove Road into the mountains. The road continues through the Dennis Cove area and provides access to several trailheads and parking areas.
There are multiple access points in the Dennis Cove area, so the address above should not be assumed to be the meeting location for every trail or Eremos event.
If you’re joining an Eremos hike, always follow the parking and meeting instructions provided with that specific event.

Dennis Cove sits in a mountain landscape shaped by Laurel Fork Creek and the surrounding ridges of the Cherokee National Forest.
The area provides access to several different kinds of trail experiences. Some routes are relatively gentle and follow streams or established forest paths. Others climb steadily toward waterfalls and require more effort than their distance might suggest.
The Appalachian Trail also passes through the area, providing access to longer routes through the Southern Appalachian mountains.
There are no single “Dennis Cove trails.” Several different routes begin in or around the area, and the experience can change considerably depending on which trail you choose.

Laurel Fork Creek
A relatively gentle route leading from the Dennis Cove area toward Laurel Fork and the surrounding watershed.

Laurel Falls
A short route through the forest toward Laurel Falls. The trail begins gently but includes some more demanding sections, particularly around the descent to the falls and the climb back out.
Coon Den Falls
A short but physically demanding climb to Coon Den Falls. The distance is modest, but the sustained ascent makes this a more challenging route than the mileage suggests.

Things to Know Before You Go
Dennis Cove is a mountain environment, and conditions can change quickly.
Parking areas and trail access vary by route. Some trails include stream crossings, steep climbs, uneven terrain, or sections that become slick during wet or cold weather.
