Joining something new always comes with a few unknowns. You might be wondering what the day will feel like on a guided hiking trip, who you’ll be hiking with, or whether you’re expected to say the right things or keep a certain pace.
At Eremos, we don’t expect you to arrive with answers. We simply invite you to come as you are, and let the day unfold one step at a time.
We Begin Together
Every Eremos hike begins the same way: gathered, present, and unhurried, with introductions, a brief overview of the trail, and an explanation of the rhythm we’ll follow for the day.
We take a few moments to introduce ourselves… not with pressure or performance, just names and a simple sense of why each person is there. Nothing complicated. Nothing forced.
From there, we talk through the trail ahead so you know what to expect underfoot. We cover anything important for the day: terrain, conditions, and anything worth noticing along the way. Then we briefly introduce the theme of the hike, something we’ll carry with us as we walk.
It’s not a lesson. It’s not a lecture. It’s a wilderness ministry experience.
It’s simply a way of stepping out of the noise and into attention.
We Walk at a Shared Pace
Once we start moving, we settle into a steady rhythm.
We walk together at a pace that allows everyone to stay present; not rushed, not striving, not left behind. Along the way, we pause when needed. Sometimes that’s for water. Sometimes it’s to rest. Sometimes it’s just to notice where we are.

These pauses are not interruptions. They are part of the rhythm itself.
Some people hike quickly. Some need time. Some are used to stopping often. We make space for all of that without pressure to perform or keep up. The trail isn’t a race to finish… it’s a space to notice.
We Arrive at the Destination
At some point along the trail, we reach our destination.
We take our packs off. We rest. We eat something simple. We sit for a while.
This is where conversation naturally opens up. Sometimes it’s reflective. Sometimes it’s quiet. Sometimes it’s light and ordinary. We spend time in Scripture, prayer, and honest conversation, not in a structured or formal way, but in a way that allows room for whatever needs to be said or simply held.
Nothing is rushed on an Eremos hike. We let the moment breathe.
We Return with Reflection
Eventually, we begin the walk back.
Often, this part of the hike feels different. Things tend to soften. Conversations continue naturally, or silence settles in comfortably. There is usually a sense that something has shifted, not always dramatically, but noticeably.
Before we finish, we pause once more. We reflect briefly on the day, pray together, and then say our goodbyes.
No pressure to summarize. No expectation to resolve everything. Just a simple acknowledgment that we shared a piece of the trail together.
A Final Word About Eremos Hikes
Every Eremos hike is a little different. The trail changes. The group changes. The weather changes.
What remains steady is the intention: to slow down, to pay attention, and to create space where God can be noticed in ways that are often missed in everyday life.
If you choose to join a hike, you don’t need to prepare yourself to be anything other than present. We’ll walk together from there.
If you’re ready for that kind of pace, we’d be glad to meet you on the trail.
