Ask someone about their favorite hike, and they’ll usually begin by describing the destination. A waterfall tucked away in the woods. A mountain summit with miles of uninterrupted views. A quiet overlook where the world seems to slow down for a while.
Those places are worth remembering. But at Eremos, the destination matters for a different reason.
We don’t choose a trail because it ends somewhere beautiful. We choose it because the destination creates space.
The Journey Prepares Us
Long before we reach the end of the trail, something has already begun to happen.
The pace of everyday life starts to fade. Conversations become less hurried. Phones are tucked away. The rhythm of walking begins to replace the rhythm of schedules and notifications.
Some moments are filled with conversation. Others are marked by comfortable silence. Both have their place.
The trail doesn’t change us simply because we’re outside.
Rather, it gives us room to notice what God has been doing all along… often beneath the noise of everyday life.
Step by step, the journey prepares our hearts to become more attentive to His presence. Walking doesn’t earn God’s presence… it simply helps remove some of the distractions that often keep us from noticing He has been with us all along.

Why We Stop
When we finally reach our destination, we don’t rush to take a picture and head back down the trail.
We stop. We take our packs off. We eat something simple. We rest.
This is where we open Scripture together. Where questions are welcomed. Where honest conversations unfold naturally. Where we pray, reflect, and simply remain for a while.
The destination isn’t the reward for finishing the hike.
It’s the place where the purpose of the hike comes into focus.
A quiet riverside. A waterfall. An overlook. A shaded clearing.
Each one offers something increasingly rare in our lives: permission to slow down without feeling like we should be somewhere else.
The Walk Back
Something interesting often happens when we shoulder our packs and begin the return journey.
The trail is the same. The distance hasn’t changed. But the walk feels different. This is why Eremos exists.
Sometimes conversations continue where they left off. Sometimes they grow quieter. Sometimes there are long stretches where no one feels the need to speak at all.
Not because silence is the goal, but because everyone has settled into the moment.
The return walk isn’t simply retracing our steps. It’s an opportunity to carry what we’ve received back into everyday life.
More Than Miles
It’s easy to measure a hike by miles walked, elevation gained, or time spent on the trail.
Those things have their place. But they aren’t how we measure an Eremos experience.
We hope people leave having noticed God more clearly than when they arrived. We hope they return home having listened honestly, prayed sincerely, and discovered that slowing down is not wasted time when it creates space to pay attention to the One who has been walking with us all along.
The destination matters. Not because it’s the end of the trail.
But because it gives us a place to stop long enough to remember why we started walking in the first place. Experience this rhythm for yourself.
